FCT was formed in 1984 to bring more scientific methods to combustion engineering for the process industries. The company now has offices in Australia and the US, and agents in many other parts of the world offering services to process industries around the world.

In recent years, a subsidiary of FCT has carried out a major research program developing a new suite of on-line analysis instrumentation. Commercialisation of these technologies has begun through FCT-ACTech with sales of an On-line Continuous XRD analyser for flowing material streams.

FCT has close links to Adelaide University (research and technical partner in combustion) and CSIRO (research and technical partner in on-line Instrumentation) in Australia.

FCT clients include some of the world's best known manufacturing companies in mineral processing, including cement, lime, alumina, nickel, steel, zinc, mineral sands, copper, pulp & paper and glass.
